Moving Mobile Home steps
We took the back steps off our mobile home today in anticipation of the
house being moved on Monday.
Steps taken to remove steps....
#1. Explain Why we need to move one set of steps before we fill the U-Haul
with the furniture. (if you have no steps at the new place how will you get
the furniture into the house?)
#2. Draw pictures to explain WHY the step needs to be moved first.
#3. go rent a U-haul big enough to hold said steps.
#4. go get a electric Saw to saw off legs on steps cause no one wants to
dig them out of the ground.
#5. Wait two hours for guy who owns the saw to get dressed cause he wants to
come over and do the sawing
#6. Go pick up guy and Saw after the two hour wait.
#7. Explain again WHY THE DARN STEPS have to move first. (with pictures and
arm movements)
#8. stand around for an hour looking at the steps and discussing the best
way to remove it
#9. Finally start sawing the legs off at the ground level
#10. Realize you need a screw driver to remove the steps from the deck to
fit it in the truck
#11. Unpack tool box that husband has conveniently packed.
#12. Stand around and discuss how hard it will be to remove the screw with
a screw drive and how an electric one would be better
#13. go to store and drive around 20 min while waiting for a parking spot.
#14. search for screw drivers, then search for clerk to ask if the
electric on cam with a charge.
#15. get home and find guys in house drinking beer playing video games.
#16. wait 30 min while they finish game......................and another
beer.
#17. discover screw does not have enough of a charge so have to charge it
for a bit and drink another beer.
#18. final start on the steps and realize they are all so rusted that they
didn't need a screw driver to get out, a good hit with a hammer would have
worked.
#19. Decide truck needs to be on other side of house and since they have
been drinking beer I must move it.
#20. put steps in truck
#21. stand around and discuss How to pick up the deck and put it in the
truck.
#22. I pulled out the ramp and said push it up the ramp.
#23. suddenly realize they could push the deck up the ramp that suddenly
appeared.
#24. get deck in truck to wheel wells and half still hanging out the back
of truck.
#25. stand around looking at deck trying to figure out how to get it over
the wheel wells. ( tell them to just lift there end and pull the darn thing.
LOL
#26 realize the deck would fit better if steps weren't in truck already
#27. decide they had worked hard enough for one day.
#28. because of the beer I have to drive the friend and his saw home.
#29. get home and set the deadbolt on the door without any steps.
#30. (this is the kicker) Tell kids they may not JUMP out door that does
not have steps and run around to the front of the house and come back in and
do it again.
Tomorrow we are dropping off the deck and steps and load the furniture into
the u-haul. We will have 3 or 4 men here doing the work. If they act as
brain dead as they did today I may have to kill them. I planned on breaking
down the swing set today while they did the steps. I got ONE swing off the
swing set.
